FIRST 100-DAY MARK: W. Visayas execs get thumbs up from DILG

ILOILO – Elected officials in WesternVisayas have done their job during their first 100 days in service, accordingto the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). “Sa 100days kasi supposed tobe ang dami na nilang ginagawa asidefrom knowing their LGU (local government units) well. Nagpa-plano na rin sila especially mayroon na silang executive and legislative agenda for the nextthree years of their term,” cited Iglesia. “Okay naman ang first 100days at sabi ko naka-takeoff na sila on their term,”Iglesia added. Before their stint, the electedgovernors, mayors, city and municipal councilors have undergone training andorientation spearheaded by DILG’s attached agency Local Government Academy.First-timer governors also have their orientation. On the same day, Iglesia started keepingeye on them, especially local chief executives – governors and city andmunicipal mayors – who are new to their jobs. But they are expected to do their tasksbeyond the 100-day mark, stressed DILG Region 6 director Engineer ArielIglesia. Iglesia said the DILG has paid attentionto the first 100 days of newly elected officials because their constituentswere “eager” to witness what the public servant will do during the first monthsof his or her term. “Mag-implement na sila ng delivery of services totheir constituents,” he added. However, DILG will not fine or penalizenew local officials who failed to fulfill what they promised during thecampaign season, Iglesia clarified./PN “They are expected to do their tasks beyond the 100-day mark,” says Engineer Ariel Iglesia, Department of Interior and Local Government reminding local chief executives in Western Visayas.
